RAYON REVIEWS: ‘Thugs of Hindostan’ Might Be Katrina Kaif’s Abs’ Best Work Till Date

Right after the trailer of Thugs of Hindostan was released, people drew comparisons with the hit franchise Pirates of the Carribean. Despite assurances from lead actor Aamir Khan that the movie is not even close to the Pirates series, people were skeptical.

Turns out, our worries were unfounded.

The script manages to be the hero, despite the grandeur of the set pieces and CGI. Amitabh Bachchan plays a wise old sage, who unexpectedly arrive at Aamir Khan’s doorstep to inform him that he’s a wizard. What follows next is a thrilling adventure that involves dragons, British people, and mud wrestling.

The performances from the main leads, Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan, are disappointing, mainly because they’re overshadowed by Katrina Kaif’s abs.

Aside from being a revolutionary movie, in terms of kohl used per actor, the movie also sets itself apart from its contemporaries by including the flimsiest of female characters in the narrative.

This is note worthy because it’s one of the finer points of the film and its commitment to remain authentic to the time period it’s based in. According to Yahoo Answers, there were little to no women present in the 18th century. This is accurately depicted in Thugs of Hindostan, with only two major female characters, played by Fatima Sana Shaikh and Katrina Kaif, with minimal dialogue.

Fatima Sana Shaikh plays the role of a young house elf who wants to prevent Aamir Khan’s character from going to Hogwarts because of the danger that awaits him, and Katrina Kaif dances on command.

It’s clear within a few minutes of their onscreen arrival that Katrina Kaif’s abs are the hero of the movie. The actress had revealed that she had to make a deal with the devil (the deal has not been disclosed yet) to get abs for days, and it’s all worth it. It’s hard to look away from her washboard mid riff because the camera refuses to focus on anything else whenever she’s on screen.

It’s heartening to finally see female body parts being given the respect they deserve.
